ADSL Speed Calculations
The speeds that you can expect from your ADSL service are governed by many factors, including;
- Type of telephone cabling in street
- Distance from telephone exchange
- Cabling at your home
- Equipment at your end - modem, filter, surgeboards etc
- & many more things
However we can work out a reasonable estimate of the speeds that you can expect by getting some data from your modem.
The Information we need is
- Line Attenuation
- & Noise Margin
In a Netcomm NB6 this information is found under Status & then DSL Line
Your Modem should give you this information somewhere - check the userguide if you can't find it.
The graph below gives you an approximate idea of the speeds you can expect, given the Line Attenuation information.
